The heavens have parted and the otherworldly behemoth known as Comic‑Con has descended on our fair city. Tickets are nigh on impossible to procure, but there is lots to see and do outside of the convention center. Riding the trolley to get there is perhaps the sanest of options—and a good opportunity to see folks that have taken cosplay to its limits. A free event of particular interest is the 2-day Crunchyroll Anime Fanfest with lots of bands playing at the Rady Shell. Indigi-Con at Park & Market will have talks and exhibits dedicated to Indigenous comic art. Saturday, the House of Peru will hold its annual Lawn Program. Also on Saturday will be the Vista Buddhist Obon Festival (if you are looking for a less rambunctious event than "The Con"!). On Sunday, the Mi Gente CA Block Party will take place at the Normal Heights Masonic Center. This weekend and in the week ahead, you can enjoy Latin, reggae, flamenco, and Indian classical music and dance concerts in San Diego. Tonight and tomorrow night are the final 2 performances of Anastasia at the Moonlight Amphitheatre in Vista. The Comedy of Errors starts Sunday at the Old Globe. Other local events include a talk about the Chronicles of the Mongols at the Islamic Center, a Tasting Italy food event at the Coronado Fire Station, a Kumeyaay Basket Workshop in Tecate (just north of the border crossing), a Lucha Libre extravaganza at the Soap Factory, and a Canadian Trivia Night at the lovely pub (which is on our block!).
